ArcPrime vs. AppColl: AI Native IP Management vs. Docketing and Practice Management

AppColl pairs docketing with billing, time tracking and trust accounting, and is adding AI features in beta. ArcPrime is the full lifecycle IPMS built for in house teams, with renewals, prosecution AI and claim charts on the same record. A side by side look for in house IP teams.

ANALYSIS

Key Differences

Core capabilities designed to solve your most critical IP challenges.

AI Native vs. AI in Beta

ArcPrime was built around AI from the start, so office action responses, claim charts and renewal recommendations run on the same record as the docket. AppColl describes its AI features, including AI Assist and AI assisted office action responses, as currently in beta and opt in, with the features available to purchase once the beta ends.

Who It Is Built For

ArcPrime is built for the in house team that owns the portfolio and its budget. AppColl serves law firms and corporations. Its law firm plans center on firm operations: billing, timers, trust account reports, conflict checking and QuickBooks sync. Its corporate plan centers on outside counsel spend tracking. A firm that bills clients out of its docketing system may want that, and ArcPrime does not do law firm billing.

Renewals

ArcPrime predicts maintenance fees, recommends pruning using family and redundancy analysis, and automates payment across jurisdictions. AppColl schedules annuity reports as a CSV file you can send to CPi for payment.

Prosecution Intelligence

ArcPrime pairs AI office action responses with examiner level analytics, so every response is written against the examiner's history, with suggested amendments and arguments drawn from the patent history and prior art. Each one is tracked on the live docket, across jurisdictions. AppColl automates the docketing around each office action.

AI Agent Access

ArcPrime's MCP server connects Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot to the system of record. Your agents query the portfolio and write back to it, and every action runs with the user's own ArcPrime permissions. AppColl offers an assistant inside its own app and documents no public API or MCP server.

Price and Security

ArcPrime has no per seat fee, so the cost does not climb as inventors, paralegals and outside counsel join. AppColl's PM plans are priced per user, per month. ArcPrime holds SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001:2022. AppColl describes AES 256 encryption and US servers, and lists no SOC 2 or ISO certification.

MIGRATION

How to Switch from AppColl to ArcPrime

Typical Migration Timeline

Most teams go live on ArcPrime in weeks from kickoff. The move brings the docket, renewal decisions and prosecution analysis into one platform, with every inventor, paralegal and outside counsel in the same account.

White Glove Migration Support

ArcPrime engineers import portfolio data from your current docketing system, reconcile applications against USPTO records, validate family relationships, and stand up intake, renewals and prosecution workflows from day one.

Part of the reason we chose ArcPrime is that it is optimized for in-house counsel. The migration itself was pretty painless. Everything I had heard about moving off our old system said it would be a very painful process, and ours was quick.

Is ArcPrime an AppColl alternative?

For in house teams, yes. ArcPrime covers US docketing, USPTO sync and invention disclosures, and adds renewal recommendations, examiner analytics, claim charts and read and write MCP on the same record. A law firm that runs billing and trust accounting out of AppColl would need a separate billing system.

Does AppColl have AI?

Yes, in beta, as of AppColl's published materials in October 2026. AppColl lists AI Assist, AI enhanced 892 processing, AI spend and billing forecasting, and AI assisted office action responses. AppColl says the beta is opt in, and that once it ends the features will be available to purchase for PM Plus and PM Corporate accounts, with 892 processing already included.

Can AppColl connect to my AI agents?

As of AppColl's published materials in October 2026, its assistant works inside the AppColl app, and AppColl documents no public API or MCP server. ArcPrime's MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot read and write your portfolio record under each user's own permissions.
